SHTTP stands for Secure Hypertext Transfer Protocol. It was created in 1995 by Enterprise Integration Technologies so as to ensure security with commercial transactions on the Internet.
It is an extension of the HTTP which is not supported by all servers and browsers and which has competitors such as SSL (Secure Sockets Layers). SSL tends to be the more widespread than SHTTP but they are not mutually incompatible. As a matter of fact the two can be used at the same time if the server allows them to run. Indeed SHTTP is design so as to secure the individual messages whereas SSL establishes a secure connection between two computers.
Computer network security is a pretty technical topic, if want to know more about it, check the website of the Internet Engineering Task Force, an organized activity of the Internet Society.
